YAYYYYY it is finally Ocotber aka Sydney International Food Festival. October is one of my favourite months and it is quite obvious why. I heart noodle markets. I go every year religiously. All these glorious restaurants and a beer garden at almost an arm reach.
Pork Belly Bun - $9 for two from Taste of Shanghai
Crave Noodle Markets
I know a lot of people aren't a fan of these noodle markets because it is over priced and you can try the same thing at those restaurants but for me, the atmosphere never fails to disappoint. Every year the noodle markets are always packed but this year, it seemed like there were a lot more people. I was so scared I was going to trip over a human in the dark LOL.
Paella at Spanthai - $15
Jackie M's raddish cake - $15
Dumprings from Taste of Shanghai
Pretty pastry 'tarts' from Katong - $10
Feast your eyes on the pork babies! Momofuku wanna be pork belly buns basically. If you compare it to the Momofuku, obviously it will not taste anywhere near as good. It was still quite exy and I do agree that for 50 cents more, you could have Momofuku's pork bun in your hot little hands. There wasn't enough sauce and I found the meat a little bit on the salty side so if you are going to order one, ask for more sauce. In saying all that though, it was actually alright and the pork bun did do the job for the night. Just don't have any expectations lol.
Spanthai is a favourite of mine. I am guaranteed to make an annual visit. Their paella is so packed full of flavour that I forgive them for not having a crust. If your on twitter, you will always hear a lot of people raving on about Jackie M's cooking. I was worried it may have been overrrated, especially as I am super fussy with my CKT and raddish cake. OMG though, it was so freaking good. If you haven't been, a visit to her stall at the noodle markets or her restaurant is mandatory.
Dessert from Red Chilli Sichuan Restaurant
Right: Rice cakes with a sweet soy sauce - $8
Left: steamed corn buns - $2
Sadly this year, I ordered the wrong desserts. The Asian within got the better of me. The desserts looked decent and it was so cheap! (2 bucks for 4 steamed buns - how could I have say no?). One bite into those steamed corn buns ... yeah.. nah... pass, sorry buddy. I was so sad, I really wanted to redeem myself by getting dutch pancakes but by this stage, not even a fat kid could fit in anymore cake. O well.. will just have to make up for it next year teehee!
Gotta go eat!
